Thank all the participants and speakers of TFR 2019!
We sincerely thank all the participants and speakers of Translation Forum Russia 2019!
This year the 10th-anniversary Translation Forum Russia 2019 was held in St. Petersburg at the Herzen State Pedagogical University. For 3 days, one of the most beautiful buildings of the campus almost turned into a buzzing hive. It was not just a place for knowledge, experience and contacts exchange, but it was also a territory of new discoveries, inspiration and bubbling energy, from time to time poured into the alleys of the campus and its bright drops scattered along the main streets and neighbouring restaurants and cafes.
The venue was not chosen by chance. The Herzen State Pedagogical University is the place of work of the School of Conference Interpreting & Translation (SCIT), a regular participant and partner of Translation Forum Russia. SCIT Director Irina Alekseeva did not miss any of the TFRs!
For three days there was a rich informational and educational program, traditionally consisting of four parallel tracks and a separated Students forum. The organizers always strive to offer content that is interesting for all target groups of the forum, presenting the latest trends in the development of the translation industry in our country, paying attention to the useful foreign experience. This year, a lot of time was devoted to professional training and reducing the gap between universities and the translation industry. Distinguished guests from the European Commission, the United Nations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation who participated in the forum contributed to these discussions. Also, the young and active Association of Translation Teachers presented its program.
During all three days, the technology track was working, where all possible issues of informatization and AI in translation and management of translation processes were considered. Issues of information security and big data management have recently been actively discussed in a broad context in different audiences. And this year it was devoted a separate section of the technology track prepared by the Saint Petersburg company EgoTranslating. And the third day of work became a platform for the active experience exchange between the companies which are successfully applying various ways of continuous localization of the software products.
Several forum discoveries took place. Such discoveries include an energetic section of small translation agencies, an exciting panel discussion with top officials of audio-visual localization companies, a section of full-time translation agencies, expanded and enriched by the experience of foreign companies. In a series of traditional language sections organized at the request of freelance translators, the “icing on the cake” (according to the participants) was a half-joking section of translation of toasts and wine tasting.
The forum is growing and becoming more representative: this year TFR was visited by a record number of 726 participants (including partners and organizers, as well as 46 participants of the Students forum) from 32 countries and 89 cities!
