Training “Basics of General Technical Translation from English into Russian”
What knowledge and skills does a translator need to successfully do technical translations?
1. First, a translator need to have a good grasp of the thematic field in question, and not on the terminological level, but on the notional one. The amount of such kind of knowledge is huge as there are a lot of such fields and they are quite wide. That is why translators need to specialize in this or that field, such as medicine, construction, etc.
Yet there are a big number of GENERAL TECHNICAL texts that UNIVERSAL translators can easily handle. The only thing they need is to master simple general technical notions understandable for anyone from humanities sphere.
2. Second, a translator needs to know what to strive to when translating technical texts, what is a high-quality translation, what the basic rules for technical translation are.
The main point is to learn how to transfer the sense of the original text according to the traditional form existing in the relevant thematic field.
These very issues will be handled during this 6-hour training. A big part of it will be devoted to practice: translations, discussion of the translated sentences taken from real documents.
